Lacquer vs Wax Potting:
Both are used to seal the wire to avoid microphonic noises and squeals.

Wax potting takes 10 to 15 minutes to allow the wax to completely penetrate the pickup. This eliminates all microphonic noise and squeals.

Lacquer potting is a quick dip to seal the outside of the pickup wires and does not penetrate completely.  This does eliminates most of the microphonic noise and squeals while allowing the wire to remain free inside for a more high-end airy lively tone

Fender conducted an examination of Stevie Ray Vaughan's pickups, noting that the neck pickup exhibited the highest output, while the other two pickups were relatively weaker. This observation aligns with common practices for pickups crafted in 1959, where the neck pickup typically produced the strongest signal. The copper foil shielding on the bobbins acts as a shorted turn, which naturally reduces some treble frequencies.

The pickups are constructed using heavy Formvar wire, known for its bright characteristics; hence, the shielding method aids in achieving a smoother tone. In my pursuit to accurately reproduce these pickups, I have utilized period-correct, USA-made components, including vulcanized fiber flatwork and aged Alnico V magnets that are hand-beveled in the same staggered configuration employed by Fender for Stratocasters in 1959. Each pickup is meticulously hand-wound, incorporating scatter winding techniques and under-winding to replicate Stevie's signature lower output. Additionally, the copper foil wrapping and grounding serve to diminish treble, further enhancing the tonal accuracy.

We ensure that all components reflect the authenticity of the original "Number One" Stratocaster. Stevie preferred to position his pickups low, near the pickguard, paired with high action and heavier strings. The use of a lower gain amplifier, when cranked, combined with these pickups, was key to achieving his remarkable guitar tones. Unlike many others who attempt to recreate his sounds through alternative methods, I have relied solely on the same high-quality components to closely imitate the original pickups he used.

For durability, all bobbins undergo a lacquer sealing process, followed by lacquer potting to eliminate microphonic feedback and squeals. Each pickup set is hand-wound, carefully tested, and crafted to deliver the best possible quality, with thorough evaluation of various wires, magnets, and bobbins. As a mark of authenticity, each hand-wound set is signed and dated, ensuring a 100% USA made product.
