Lacquer vs Wax Potting:
Both are used to seal the wire to avoid microphonic noises and squeals.
Wax potting takes 10 to 15 minutes to allow the wax to completely penetrate the pickup.
This eliminates all microphonic noise and squeals.
Lacquer potting is a quick dip to seal the outside of the pickup wires and does not penetrate completely.
This does eliminates most of the microphonic noise and squeals while allowing the wire to remain free inside for a more high-end airy lively tone
David Gilmour Tribute Fender Stratocaster Pickup Set. This is a tribute to Gilmours Black Strat, we used '69 spec neck and middle pickups and the bridge being a custom wound '69 using .43 heavy formvar wire and over winding it to achieve a much higher output. We lacquer dip all of our bobbins for durability then lacquer pot them to avoid microphonic noises and squeals. All of our pickups are hand wound and scatterwound. We have spent a great amount of time testing wires, magnets, and bobbins from various sources to product the best quality pickup that we can. Each of our hand-wound sets are signed and dated. 100% made in the USA..
- Plain Enamel 42 wire for neck and middle
- Heavy Formvar 43 wire for the bridge and being over wound for higher output
- Middle is reverse wound for hum canceling in the 2 and 4 positions
- Period correct staggered pole pieces with aged finish
- Alnico 5 magnets
- Average read outs: Neck 5.9, Middle 5.9, Bridge 10, but each may vary slightly
- Period correct 11 inch long cloth push back wire
- Gray bottom fiber bobbins
