Late 50's Fender Tweed Champ Amp " Death Cap "
I purchased this Champ Amp many years ago, it was very noisy, microphonic, when I would touch the strings on the guitar it would quiet down little. While playing it would go from sounding pretty good to very low volume. I bought a set of new old stock tubes and replaced the torn speaker with an old original 50's one I bought on ebay. Never was right though so it sat in the corner for years. Yesterday I had a customer on my website interested in a having a custom neck pickup made. He had worked on a customers guitar that happened to have a set of Migas Touch Smooth Blues Pickups in it. He really liked the tones especially noted that treble highs were great. So he was looking for a neck pickup with the same qualities. Anyway turns out it was Shaun Sanders with Sanders Amps so I sent him these pictures of my Champ Amp and the first thing he said was you need to remove the " Death Cap " someone had already replaced the old 2 prong cord with a 3 prong but never removed the death cap. I removed it, turned the amp on and was amazed at the fact there was no more noises. So I plugged in my guitar still no noises and when I cranked it up to 7 on the volume holy smokes that is where the amp breaks and just sounds incredible. After all these years I finally have a killer 50's Champ Amp. Thanks to my new found friend Shaun Sanders. Please check out his website which is in the first comment.
