Gretsch Dean Turner Prototype 1978 Orange Chet Atkins Country Gentleman
This is the only one in the world very collectable !!!
1978 Gretsch Prototype. Guitar is in excellent condition with light use. Minor marks here and there but nothing that stands out. Sounds amazing but the toggles are a little scratchy when switching them back and forth but not much. Weather you are a collector or player this would be a fantastic addition to your line up. Since it was built it looks to have had a few changes as you can see in the last picture which was from about 10 years ago. The 2 toggle switches and maybe one of the pickups look to have been changed at some point. This is a big guitar with a huge long neck which Dean stated was a favorite of Chet Atkins. A card that came with it from Dean that reads: in 1978, discussion was conducted between me and Gretsch for a prototype designed by me. Gretsch gave me all the parts, including top, back, sides, neck and hardware, and said, build us one. So I did. This is the result of that event. The pickups are standard filtertrons. The neck joins the body of the 18th fret, and is a very long scale. However, the company changed ownership and many other things were going on at that time, so no discussion was ever made concerning this guitar, which has some unusual design features, including wide neck, which chet favored so much. There is no block through the body, and the F holes are made with a special tape, and the finish applied over all.
Neck is straight and frets are fine. Comes with original Gretsch case that has some ware but not much. Scale length is approximately 25 1/2 inch. Comes as shown with an older album of Dean Tuner, a 1983 Guitar Player magazine that has Dean Turner written story about him and Gretsch and the picture of the guitar with the Dean explaining the guitar. Probably belongs in the Country Hall of Fame or Museum.
