At Migas Touch Pickups we specialize in custom builds to order. Here is a message we received from a returning customer who just a couple months ago we built him a custom set of Stratocaster pickups.
"I’m looking for the soul of the best original 1954 Strat pickups, refined to their fullest potential. Vintage output with exceptional clarity, touch sensitivity, bell-like highs, woody mids, tight bass, and a huge three-dimensional sound. I want all the magic of the greatest ’54 Strat pickups, just elevated"
That's one specific request, I called and talked to him and even though 54's are usually wound with .42 heavy formvar wire we were going to use .42 Plain Enamel. Because he was wanting bell like highs and woody mids with exceptional clarity I advised him we would start with 54 bobbins using Alnico 3 magnets with the standard stagger but would slightly under wind them while keeping the tension as I hand wound them to a minimum with added scatter winding. Finishing off with a quick dip lacquer potting to help keep them more open and airy. I added the pics i just took of them finished and they will be shipping out in the morning.
